Job Summary: Performs the duties of a Lab Assistant and assumes responsibility for one or more sub-sections of the Lab Office. Covers department in the absence of supervisor. Trains new hires as needed. Performs special job assignments as needed for the department.

Hours: 6:00am – 2:00pm (Rotating Weekends)
Job Essentials: The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements and competencies.
- Trains Lab Assistants in all areas of the Lab Office as needed. Acts as mentor/role model to other lab assistants and first level of support for them.
- Assumes a level of responsibility/oversight in the Lab Office for one or more areas and covers in the absence of the Lab Office Supervisor.
- Performs all duties and performance standards outlined in Lab Assistant job description.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Assists Lab Office Supervisor in maintaining procedures and QA projects.
- Maintains a high level of quality and safety.
- Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
- Meets regulatory and annual health assessment requirements.
- Displays a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.
- Maintains high standards of service excellence in all interactions with patients, physicians, other departments and co-workers.
- Performs other duties as required by department.
Education Requirements:
- Greater than 2 years’ experience as a Lab Assistant.
- High School Diploma, higher education preferred
- Advanced knowledge of the processing of specimens for Reference Laboratory testing.
- Advanced skills for the processing of specimens for specialty testing.
- Previous exposure to Laboratory and Laboratory terminology.
- Excellent communication and public relation skills.
- Familiarity with computer terminals, keyboards, printers, and PCs.

The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc. The minimum rate does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation.
