Job Summary:
Under general supervision, contacts insurance companies under representation of the physicians of the Medical Center. Obtain pre-certification for various testing and or therapy. Obtains necessary personal and medical information from Physician office on the patient for use in authorization. Performs computer data entry and other record keeping tasks related to certification of patients.

Job Essentials: The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements and competencies.
- Obtain demographic, insurance and medical information on patients.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills with physician offices and insurance companies.
- Ensure all recorded information is complete and accurate. Make revisions when necessary.
- Contact insurance companies and third-party administrators to obtain authorization information for procedure ordered.
- Obtain benefit information on patients being pre-authorized, and advise patients of their deductible, co-payment and/or co-insurance amounts they will have to pay on or before the day of their scheduled test.
- Respect privacy and confidentiality of each patient record.
- Record authorization information in patient electronic record.
- Review various outpatient schedules to ensure preauthorization is complete.
- Keep logs and records related to patients’ authorization.
- Treat all individuals with respect including but not limited to patients, visitors, co-workers, physicians and hospital staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Completion of high school or equivalent education or minimum 5 years’ experience in related field
- One or more years of related insurance experience in healthcare facility or physician office preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Ability to function independently
- Clerical, data entry and some typing skills including: Filing and record keeping
- Ability to work in fast paced environment
- Flexible and able to pay close attention to details
- Ability to complete needed tasks with speed accuracy
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD, HCPCS and/or drug codes
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Ability to function independently

The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc. The minimum rate does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation.
