Job Summary:
EHMC is seeking a full-time NURSE PRACTITIONER (APRN) or PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (PA) to join a very enthusiastic team in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The ideal candidate would excel in communication, interpersonal skills, precise documentation, and clinical expertise in the management of all phases of care for the cardiac surgery patient. The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at EHMC currently performs 500+ adult cardiac and thoracic surgical cases per year, and is experiencing steady growth.
The responsibilities of the PA/APN include, but are not limited to:
- Deliver comprehensive care to cardiac surgery patients in telemetry, stepdown, and ICU units.
- Approaching a patient to elicit a detailed and accurate history, perform an appropriate physical
examination, identify problems, record information and interpret and present information to the
supervising physician - Assisting a physician in an inpatient setting by conducting patient rounds, recording patient
progress notes, determining and implementing therapeutic plans jointly with the supervising
physician and compiling and recording pertinent narrative case summaries. - Provide expert clinical management of cardiac surgery patients pre- and post-operatively, including assessment, planning, and coordination of care.
- Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Monitor and manage patients in the ICU, including ventilator support, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-operative recovery.
- Participate in daily rounds, care planning, and discharge coordination.
- Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery expectations, and post-discharge care.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice within the cardiac surgery service.
- Facilitating the referral of patients to, and promoting their awareness of, health care facilities and
other appropriate agencies and resources in the community.

Job Essentials:
- 3-5 years of experience as cardiac surgery provider preferred
Education requirements:
- For PAs: Bachelor's Required, Master’s Degree Preferred
- For NPs: Master's Degree Required
License/Certification/Registry:
- If Nurse Practitioner (APRN): Current NJ State Advanced Practice Nurse License
- If Physician Assistant (PA): Current NJ PA license and certification by NCCPA
- Current BLS and ACLS
- Current CDS and DEA licenses
