Job Summary:

The Emergency Medical Technician ("EMT-B") renders emergency medical care to sick, disabled or injured individuals based on signs, symptoms or complaints, prior to the individual's hospitalization or while transporting the individual between health care facilities.

Job Essentials:

  • Responsible for maintaining all of the operational systems of the Emergency Medical Services Department.
  • Renders emergency medical care to sick, disabled or injured individual(s) based on signs, symptoms or complaints.
  • Responsible for all vehicles, supplies and equipment usage during assigned shift. Communicates via two-way radio with dispatch.
  • Ensures that in-service vehicles, supplies and equipment are thoroughly checked.  Ensures that all reported discrepancies are corrected at the earliest possible time. 
  • Follows procedures set forth by medical control.
  • Assists in the transportation of a patient(s) with patient movement devices.
  • Participates in cleaning, restocking and disinfecting after each call.
  • Performs other duties as requested or required by EMS management. Ensures that the daily walk-around maintenance routine is performed. Ensures that each run sheet is completely filled out with all the required information.
  • Ensures that the ambulance is cleaned & restocked after each run and all forms are completed. Ensures that the battery on each AED is charged.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the MICU Director.
  • Demonstrates awareness of Medical Center and Department policies and ensures staff compliance and uses these as a basis for decision making for clinical and management issues.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of High School Graduate or equivalent required
  • Working knowledge of driver safety and emergency care.  EVOC certification or equivalent certification for driving.
  • Knowledge of ICS structure and how to apply in various situations
  • Knowledge of NJAC Statutes 8:40 and 8:41
  • Current NJ, NY, PA or National Registry EMT
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Current automobile license with no moving violations and motor vehicle accidents
  • Pre Hospital or Basic Trauma Life Support  (Basic Level) certification
  • Hazmat training at the awareness level or better within the last 12 months
  • CEVO training within 3 years
  • WMD Awareness and Operations within 6 months
  • Hazardous Material Awareness and Incident Command System Certifications   ICS 200 and 300, NIMS 700, NIMS 800 
  • Two years of full-time BLS experience
  • One year experience within the Medical Center
  • Must possess an instructorship within 1 year of appointment: BCLS.

The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc. The minimum rate does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation. In addition to the minimum rate, eligible employees may receive comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and other wellness resources.
