Physician/Provider Onboarding Process

Provider onboarding and credentialing involves a multistep process including human resources, payer credentialing, malpractice insurance, medical staff privileges, and EHR training.

  • Human Resources: You will be onboarded as an employee with pre-employment requirements of criminal background checks and employee health clearances.
  • Medical Staff Credentialing: You will be credentialed for medical staff privileges at Englewood Hospital, which includes a brief interview with the chief of the department and the submission of an application followed by an interview with our credentials committee.
  • Payer Credentialing: You will be credentialed with insurance payers, including Medicare and Medicaid, as well as commercial insurances. Resources that explain the process for obtaining a NJ medical license and CDS (Control Dangerous Substance) license, which is a prerequisite for transferring or applying for a Federal DEA in New Jersey, are provided. Also included are instructions for creating a CAQH account, which is an online credentialing application shared by commercial payers. The New Jersey Medical License process takes four to six months. Therefore, if you do not have an active license, please apply for any necessary licenses immediately.
  • Malpractice Insurance: In addition, Englewood Health will begin the process of applying for medical malpractice insurance on your behalf.

In addition to these required processes, onboarding also includes training on Epic (our electronic health record system).
